Jeanne Werner, age 91, mother, grandmother and dear friend to many, died peacefully in the early hours of August 7.
Born on February 26, 1932, Jeanne's life was defined by her determination and generosity. She was not just a high school teacher, but a guiding presence for her students who affectionately referred to her as "Mom".
Jeanne's compassionate and generous nature extended beyond the classroom. After receiving a kidney herself, she dedicated many hours to the organ donor network, working to support and promote organ donation.
Jeanne's heart was as open as her home, she welcomed refugees – and family members – into her home, offering them support and a new beginning. Her community spirit was evident in her active involvement in the Greendale Woman's Club, proudly serving as their president 2003-2004.
She loved organizing luncheons and crafting beautiful table decorations and centerpieces. With a flair for design she brought joy to gatherings by adding her personal touch to every event. Her love for social interactions extended to her favorite pastimes of Bridge and Sheepshead (she hated it when people said Sheep's Head), showcasing not only her competitive spirit but also her ability to bring people together. She was always thankful for the sense of belonging and fellowship she found in the Greendale Community Church.
Jeanne leaves behind a legacy of love, survived by her two daughters, Loralyn and Jacquelyn, and her five grandchildren: Andrew, Léa, Kian, Claire and Ilias. She was predeceased by her husband Robert and her daughter Carolyn.
A visitation and memorial service will be held on September 16th at the Greendale Community Church, located at 6015 Clover Lane from 10 am to 12 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Habitat for Humanity and to sign your driver's license as an organ donor – she would have wanted that.
