Wack, Theresia Maria In the early morning hours of September 5th, Theresia Maria Wack arrived at her final destination, her heavenly home. Her journey was an arduous trek from South-Eastern WWII Europe to the US. Theresia was born in Jarek (present Yugoslavia) to her parents Theresia Wack, nee Scheer, and Michael Wack. She is survived by her cousin Helmut Wack (Margreth), of Germany, her lifelong friend Hannelore, and many good friends. Theresia started her college studies at Mainz University (Germany), received her teaching degree from Mount Mary, and continued her studies at Marquette and Georgetown. Her interests centered on History, Theology, and Education. She made teaching for the Milwaukee School system her career; first teaching at Audubon JH and then until her retirement in 1990 at Custer HS. Theresia enjoyed reading, traveling (particularly cruising), and doing volunteer work. She was known to her friends for her extensive knowledge, quick humor, and playing "devil's advocate" in any debate. She was a lifelong learner and seeker, an advocate of education, and a charitable giver. Heartfelt thanks go out to Father John Yockey and the dedicated staff at AngelsGrace who helped to give her spiritual and physical comfort during her last days. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 21 at St. Jerome Catholic Church (995 Silver Lake St, Oconomowoc, WI 53066). Visitation will be from 10:00AM to 11:00AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial. Memorials may be directed to AngelsGrace (W359 N743 Brown St, Oconomowoc) or to St. Jerome's Mortgage Fund.

I had Miss Wack for US History and for Contemporary World Affairs.  Not only did she put up with some shenanigans between myself and someone with the initials JB, but she took time to get to know me, and she challenged me to go beyond my normal "dial it in" type of academics.  Every now and then you could see her heart, despite her efforts to pretend she didn't have one.  AND once I saw her smoking a pipe in the teacher's lounge when another teacher opened the door rather widely when passing through.  That was a sight to see!  HA!

Her funeral was very well-attended, and according to a parishoner at her church, everyone knew her and loved her there.  I only wish that I would have known that we didn't live that far away from each other.  I would have loved to have had a chat with her.  I would also have liked to thank her for preparing me so well for college, as her classes were some of the only classes that actually did prepare me for college.  So, thanks, Miss Wack, for everything.  You were one of a kind!
