Passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2011, at the age of 88. Beloved husband of V. Laverne Shirey (nee Haggerty). Step-father of Leigh Cowen, Keith Cowen, the late Gary Cowen and Lynn Engel. Grandfather of Stephen, Ryan, Jeremiah, Miriam and Peter. Brother of Fran Briggs, Marjorie Martin, Arthur Shirey and Betty Reszka. Preceded in death by brothers Keoster, Jim and Clifford Shirey and sisters, Dorothy Thompson and Marjorie Martin.

David served US Army Air Force 30th Photo Reconnaissance Unit during World War II. He was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern theater Ribbon with 1 silver Battle Star and 1 Bronze Battle Star for his service. 

David began teaching industrial arts in 1963 at Custer High School, retiring after 25 years.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in David's name to the Muscular Dystrophy Association appreciated. Visitation at the Funeral home Saturday, January 15, from 11A.M.-12:45P.M. Funeral Service to follow at 1P.M. private interment Graceland Cemetery.
